An auto is the step between a two-wheeler and a car, and most days it is the one that fits: three people, or two people and a load, under a roof, without the boot and the air conditioning you are not going to use.
The part people actually notice is the fare. It is shown before you confirm and it is what you pay when you arrive — there is no negotiation at the kerb and nothing to argue about at the end.
