Ambulance

A number a person answers, and a fare agreed before the vehicle moves.

  • Booked byA phone call
  • HoursAny hour, every day
  • TripsAdmissions, transfers and discharges
  • FareAgreed on the call

The one service here that is not booked in the app, because an emergency is not the moment to install something and sign in to it. You call, a person picks up, and the vehicle is on its way while you are still talking.

A person answers at any hour. If it is life-threatening, call 108 first.

Why this one

What Ambulance is for

A number, not a form

A person answers and the vehicle is moving while you are still on the line. There is nothing to install and no account to make first.

Any hour

Nights, Sundays and the middle of a festival week. It is the same number every time.

The fare before it moves

Agreed on that first call, so it is settled before the vehicle is sent rather than argued at the hospital door.

In detail

About Ambulance

Everything else on this site is booked on a screen. This is not, and that is the whole design: nobody fills in a form while somebody they love is on the floor. It is a phone number, answered by our operations team, at any hour of any day.

What we are already good at is most of this job. We run vehicles across these roads every day, and knowing which way traffic actually moves at four in the afternoon is not something anyone learns from a map. Dispatching an ambulance is the same work as dispatching a ride, with more at stake and a hospital at the end of it.

If someone is not breathing, is bleeding heavily or has collapsed, call 108 before you call us. It is the government emergency ambulance, it is free, and in most of the country it is the fastest vehicle that exists. Call us for what is planned — an admission, a transfer between hospitals, a discharge home — or after 108, when you still need a vehicle.

What comes with it

  • A person on the phone rather than a queue or a form
  • The fare agreed before the vehicle is sent
  • The driver's name and vehicle number, given to you on the call
  • The same number reachable until the trip ends

How it works

Start to finish

  1. Call the number

    Any hour. A person answers.

  2. Say where, and what for

The pickup, the hospital if you already know which one, and enough about the patient for operations to send the right vehicle.

  3. We agree the fare and dispatch

Settled on that same call, and the nearest vehicle is sent. You get the driver's name and number before it reaches you.

  4. To the hospital

The fare is the one agreed on the call. Ask for a receipt on the phone if you need one for an insurance claim.

Questions

Questions about Ambulance

Should I call you or 108?

Call 108 first if someone is not breathing, is bleeding heavily or has collapsed — it is the government emergency ambulance and it is free. Call us for anything planned, such as an admission, a transfer between hospitals or a discharge home, or after 108 when you still need a vehicle.

Can I book it in the app?

No, and deliberately. An emergency is not the moment to install an app or sign in to one, so this one is a phone call.

What does it cost?

It is agreed on the call, before the vehicle is sent, so there is nothing to settle at the hospital door.

Which cities is it in?

The ones we already run in. The call tells you straight away if we cannot reach you, rather than sending a vehicle that is an hour away.
